Adding tags to contacts is a very useful feature.
Sometimes that same tag applies to several contacts, for example, a market segment to which they belong.
That means that all the contacts that belong to a company will have the same tag.
It can save a lot of time to add the tags as a bulk operation to all of them at the same time.
